Palm Tree Trimming

Palm Tree Trimming

It’s Florida so there are palm trees everywhere. With JC TREE AND STUMP LLC we take pride in knowing the different types of palm tree species we have here in Florida. There are over 2,600 palm tree species in the world, with a few of them being native to Florida.

Like any other plant in your yard, palm trees require a bit of maintenance to keep up their curb appeal. Pruning is the practice of removing brown or dying fronds to improve your palm's appearance as well as encourage healthy growth. During the pruning process if a palm frond is accidentally cut that frond will need to be removed or in a couple weeks after it is cut that frond will droop. Be sure to remove all fronds that have been cut by accident.

The best approach to trimming a palm tree is to remove the dead ones and leave as many green fronds as you possibly can on the palm tree. For them to produce a steady food supply and grow, they need many green fronds. A palm tree cannot stay healthy and produce good fruits without a considerable number of green fronds. Over pruning a palm tree can take away the nutrients, food, and carbohydrates from the palm tree.

Be sure to call an experienced tree service before getting your palm trees pruned. We recently have noticed that some tree services are doing a hurricane prune on your palms and that can cause more harm to the palm tree. A hurricane cut can do worse in a hurricane because the spear stem is more susceptible to the wind. The outer fronds protect the inner fronds.
